Why I'm Voting Democratic
Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 12:48 PMI'm voting Democrat because English has no place being the official language in America.
I'm voting Democrat because it's better to turn corn into fuel than it is to eat.
I'm voting Democrat because I'd rather pay $4 for a gallon of gas than allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America.
I'm voting Democrat because I think the government will do a better job of spending my money than I could.
I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to kill us because they'll think we're a good and decent country.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe people who can't tell us if it will rain in two or three days, can now tell us the polar ice caps will disappear in ten years if I don't start riding a bicycle, build a windmill or inflate my tires to proper levels.
I'm voting Democrat because it's all right to kill millions of babies as long as we keep violent, convicted murderers on death row alive.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe businesses in America should not be allowed to make profits. Businesses should just break even and give the rest to the government so politicians and bureaucrats can redistribute the money the way they think it should be redistributed.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe guns, and not the people misusing them, are the cause of crimes and killings.
I'm voting Democrat because when someone with a weapon threatens my family or me, I know government can respond faster through a call to 911 than I can with a gun in my hand.
I'm voting Democrat because oil companies' 5% profit on a gallon of gas are obscene, but government taxes of 18% on the same gallon of gas are just fine.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four elitist liberals should rewrite the Constitution every few months to suit some fringe element that could never get their agenda past voters.
I'm voting Democrat because illegal aliens are not criminals, are not sucking up resources through government aid, hospital services, education, or social services, but are just people trying to make a better life by coming to America illegally. We can't blame them for that, can we?
I'm voting Democrat because now I can now marry whatever I want, so I've decided to marry my horse.
Monday, August 18, 2008, 01:21 PM - General, Kids, OffRoad, BuggySo here's the skinny....
Left King Par and started a job with MSU/FAME (Flint Area Medical Education) as the Network Administrator. My office is now out of Hurley.
Actually hung some drywall in the bedroom upstairs.
Have done NOTHING with the buggy in like the last three months. Need to buy a new battery for it.
The transmission for the wrangler is still sitting in the shed. I did start the wrangler up a couple times though.
Mikey is a handful as he nears two years old.
The twins are going mobile. Izzy is everywhere and into everything. Ephraim is getting close to crawling. For now he is content to roll everywhere.
May post pictures one day.....
Thursday, June 5, 2008, 08:16 AM - General, OffRoadSo what's been happening? Well let's see here...
Buggy - Buggy is running great. I de-leaned (richened) the amount of propane hitting the mixer and the motor is running strong. New tires are working out great as well. Still have an electrical issue I need to figure out (poor ground, bad battery, bad connection to starter? I'm not sure which of those three). I tried welding with a wrench while replacing the cable end connection to my starter. Had a bit of a fire when my wrench touched both the positive connection to the starter and a brake line running below. That was fun. I took Catch22 to the Mounds Challenge. Had a good time. Found out Catch isn't real fond of getting muddy ('8 I also won a high-lift jack!
House - I actually made some progress over the last holiday weekend. I ripped out our old upstairs railing, cut out part of a floor joist, and framed in a new half wall that ties into the existing floor joists. Kirk came over this week and ran the wire for lights, switches and outlets for Mikey's room (bare studs right now). I'll be spending this weekend cleaning everything out of the room, removing insulation, adding nailers in the corners (for when we drywall) and re insulating. Man I hope it cools down for the weekend.
Work - We just got in a pretty sweet piece of hardware for the golf academy. It's a ball flight tracking system that records EVERYTHING about your hits - AND it uses doppler radar to do it. Pretty expensive, but we are one of two places in the state that have it. My swing still sucks......
New Tires - Backyard Poser Shot
Monday, May 12, 2008, 10:07 AM - General, OffRoad, BuggyThe new tires fit when they are on the new rims. They are VERY close to the leaf springs. Here's a poser shot while I was testing for interference.
About that brake line....
Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 08:19 AM - General, OffRoad, BuggySo, I had mentioned earlier about the brake line that blew on the van. It was the line for the front passenger brake, and it rusted out on one of the plastic clips that hold the line to the body. I spent some time Saturday taking the line out, but for the life of me could not get the fitting out of the proportional valve (whatever the thing is called that all the lines run to) or from the softline that goes to the caliper.
Insert side story - I borrowed my dad's '38 Chevy truck and took some yard waste to the city compost. I also made a trip to Clio where I met up with a guy and bought two 35x15.5x15 TSL SX tires. Ran them over to a shop where my buddy works and had them mounted.
Back to main story - I called it quits on the van Saturday because I was starting to get mad, and had other things to do. Sunday morning, since we didn't have a vehicle that would hold all the car seats, we stayed home and I worked on the van some more. I ended up getting the fitting out of the proportional valve (righty tighty lefty loosey something or another) but for the life of me couldn't break the fitting out of the soft line union. I took the bracket off that holds the union and tried and tried with vice grips and pliers to get it loose (it was rounded over from trying by this point). The only thing I accomplished was bending the bracket. Mind you, I had been using the ultimate repair tool both days - PB Blaster.
Finally I said screw it, went to ACE and bought a torch. Got a good cherry glow and a melted soft line and was able to get the hard line and soft line apart and out of the bracket. I NEVER would have been able to get them apart without heat.
With that done I was finally able to start putting the new line in. I had stopped at Harbor Freight (dangerous) and picked up a bending tool and flaring kit both for around $20. Picked up two 5 foot pieces of line and a union on Saturday as well. I am by no means good at brake line. I can visualize what it needs to look like, but I just kind of wing it and make it work. That I did. I got the line run - ugly, but effective. Then the real fun. Bleeding brakes is easy (especially with two people), but loosening bleeders is not. Got the system under pressure, re tightened all the fittings (dang leaks), re pressurized the system, and bled all the brakes. Good to go.
Back to side story - So I have these sweet new tires for the back of the buggy. Sunday the van is done, Bec is going to go shopping and I'm going to take the kids over to my parents. Perfect time to try the new tires out. I get the buggy out, take one of the tires off and start bolting on one of the new ones. I get two lugs on and notice that the tire is pressing into the leaf spring. Oh crap. So tonight, I'm meeting up with another guy in Birch Run and picking up some wider rims with less backspacing and crossing my fingers that these things will fit.
Linux and Vehicles
Thursday, April 24, 2008, 07:12 AM - GeneralSo, in case you didn't know, Ubuntu Hardy Heron is out today (8.04 LTS). This is exciting - at least to me anyways. I upgraded my work laptop from 7.10 to 8.04 beta about a month or so ago. Today, I went to Ubuntu.com to download the latest version. Funny enough 8.04 does not appear on their download page.... That's odd. Anyways, a quick google search turned up their release site (not advertised on ubuntu.com) and you can download it from releases.ubuntu.com/hardy - My work laptop will be receiving a fresh install of the "non-beta" version of Hardy today.
Oh, and you've got to love vehicles. I just managed to fix one thing on our van, and last night during a formula/cereal run to the grocery store a brake line blew. I had to laugh though. There are definitely worse things that could happen in life.
