Businesses should just break even and give the rest to the government so politicians and bureaucrats can redistribute the money the way they think it should be redistributed.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe guns, and not the people misusing them, are the cause of crimes and killings.

I'm voting Democrat because when someone with a weapon threatens my family or me, I know government can respond faster through a call to 911 than I can with a gun in my hand.

I'm voting Democrat because oil companies' 5% profit on a gallon of gas are obscene, but government taxes of 18% on the same gallon of gas are just fine.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four elitist liberals should rewrite the Constitution every few months to suit some fringe element that could never get their agenda past voters.

I'm voting Democrat because illegal aliens are not criminals, are not sucking up resources through government aid, hospital services, education, or social services, but are just people trying to make a better life by coming to America illegally.
So what's been happening? Well let's see here...

Buggy - Buggy is running great. I de-leaned (richened) the amount of propane hitting the mixer and the motor is running strong. New tires are working out great as well. Still have an electrical issue I need to figure out (poor ground, bad battery, bad connection to starter? I'm not sure which of those three). I tried welding with a wrench while replacing the cable end connection to my starter. Had a bit of a fire when my wrench touched both the positive connection to the starter and a brake line running below. That was fun. I took Catch22 to the Mounds Challenge. Had a good time. Found out Catch isn't real fond of getting muddy ('8 I also won a high-lift jack!

House - I actually made some progress over the last holiday weekend. I ripped out our old upstairs railing, cut out part of a floor joist, and framed in a new half wall that ties into the existing floor joists. Kirk came over this week and ran the wire for lights, switches and outlets for Mikey's room (bare studs right now). I'll be spending this weekend cleaning everything out of the room, removing insulation, adding nailers in the corners (for when we drywall) and re insulating. Man I hope it cools down for the weekend.

Work - We just got in a pretty sweet piece of hardware for the golf academy. It's a ball flight tracking system that records EVERYTHING about your hits - AND it uses doppler radar to do it. Pretty expensive, but we are one of two places in the state that have it.
About that brake line....

So, I had mentioned earlier about the brake line that blew on the van. It was the line for the front passenger brake, and it rusted out on one of the plastic clips that hold the line to the body. I spent some time Saturday taking the line out, but for the life of me could not get the fitting out of the proportional valve (whatever the thing is called that all the lines run to) or from the softline that goes to the caliper.

Insert side story - I borrowed my dad's '38 Chevy truck and took some yard waste to the city compost. I also made a trip to Clio where I met up with a guy and bought two 35x15.5x15 TSL SX tires. Ran them over to a shop where my buddy works and had them mounted.

Back to main story - I called it quits on the van Saturday because I was starting to get mad, and had other things to do. Sunday morning, since we didn't have a vehicle that would hold all the car seats, we stayed home and I worked on the van some more. I ended up getting the fitting out of the proportional valve (righty tighty lefty loosey something or another) but for the life of me couldn't break the fitting out of the soft line union. I took the bracket off that holds the union and tried and tried with vice grips and pliers to get it loose (it was rounded over from trying by this point). The only thing I accomplished was bending the bracket. Mind you, I had been using the ultimate repair tool both days - PB Blaster.

Finally I said screw it, went to ACE and bought a torch. Got a good cherry glow and a melted soft line and was able to get the hard line and soft line apart and out of the bracket. I NEVER would have been able to get them apart without heat.

With that done I was finally able to start putting the new line in. I had stopped at Harbor Freight (dangerous) and picked up a bending tool and flaring kit both for around $20. Picked up two 5 foot pieces of line and a union on Saturday as well. I am by no means good at brake line. I can visualize what it needs to look like, but I just kind of wing it and make it work. That I did. I got the line run - ugly, but effective. Then the real fun. Bleeding brakes is easy (especially with two people), but loosening bleeders is not. Got the system under pressure, re tightened all the fittings (dang leaks), re pressurized the system, and bled all the brakes. Good to go.

Back to side story - So I have these sweet new tires for the back of the buggy. Sunday the van is done, Bec is going to go shopping and I'm going to take the kids over to my parents. Perfect time to try the new tires out. I get the buggy out, take one of the tires off and start bolting on one of the new ones. I get two lugs on and notice that the tire is pressing into the leaf spring. Oh crap. So tonight, I'm meeting up with another guy in Birch Run and picking up some wider rims with less backspacing and crossing my fingers that these things will fit.

I upgraded my work laptop from 7.10 to 8.04 beta about a month or so ago. Today, I went to Ubuntu.com to download the latest version. Funny enough 8.04 does not appear on their download page.... That's odd. Anyways, a quick google search turned up their release site (not advertised on ubuntu.com) and you can download it from releases.ubuntu.com/hardy - My work laptop will be receiving a fresh install of the "non-beta" version of Hardy today.

Oh, and you've got to love vehicles.
(see previous post)
Soooo then. I did buy a 3/8" breaker - and I did break the fill plug on the rear differential of our astro van.
Wrangler Transmission

Well - super fail on my part on getting the "new" transmission into the Wrangler over the weekend. I didn't have any help avaliable, didn't have everything I needed (I need at least two floor jacks to get this done) and am still sick with some nasty "Michigan can't decide to be warm or cold" gunk. So, I messed with the Xbox, played some games (ooooohh - anybody who's a H.P. Lovecraft Fan will love to know that Call of Cthulu for the Xbox is identical to the PC game) and took ALL the kids for a walk. People give a lot of funny looks when you're dragging around three kids under the age of two.

I did manage to replace the rear differential cover on the van over the weekend. Have I mentioned how much I love what Michigan does to vehicles? I ended up pounding a 12 point 12mm socket onto ALL 10 1/2 inch bolts that hold the differential over on. The cover itself was so rusted I could almost stick my finger through it. Not really, but rusted enough that the flat that mates with the gasket was starting to leak, and the cover itself was flaking quite heavily. I replaced it with an $18 chrome cover. I still have to get the fill plug out. That too is rusted in. I'm going to pickup a 3/8" square drive for a 1/2" socket and cross my fingers. Maybe I should buy a big frickin hammer while I'm at it.

Looks like I also found a buyer for my Saiga AK. More on that to come, but it should finance either tires or shocks for the buggy or Wrangler.

I also got over to Joel's on Sunday to take some pictures of his Jeep that he is now selling. He has a line on a 97 TJ with a nice lift and four-link suspension. Here some pics of his jeep link

I had a post all written up the other day and my session timed out when I was writing it so it never made it to the site..... Ah well - as the old adage (sp?) goes - "Save early and save often". Actually, I think I heard it "Castle early and castle often" but that doesn't make sense since you can only castle once per game of chess. Anyways...

I traded my old sony viao for some cash and an xbox (original 1.0 version). Then I ordered my mod chip, installed that and a new hard drive and am now running XBMC which is frickin sweet, cause now I can play all the video/tv/music that I have stored on my local server, plus access all kinds of stuff online. Not to mention all the SNES and Genesis games I have on it (1500+).

In other news, I bought a transmission for my Wrangler. I haven't driven the thing for over a year (maybe longer) - but it will still start right up. I think I might try to change it out tomorrow and put plates/insurance back on it next week. This warm weather really has me wound up to be driving that thing. I'm pretty sure it needs shocks and an alignment, so I'll probably get in trouble for spending too much money.... Means I'll have to sell some more stuff. What is it with humans and instant gratification now and consequences later?

I'll post pictures. Ponder this - In a closed room a humidifier can raise the room temperature and humidity noticeably. The room gets hot and balmy. Now consider that the "greatest" idea on going green is to convert vehicles to run on hydrogen, of which water (steam) is a by-product. So now, instead of the carbon dioxide that vehicles currently produce as a by-product, each vehicle will act as a humidifier spewing out steam into the atmosphere. What will this translate to? My guess is elevated temperature, increased precipitation, and ultimately even greater amounts of money into Al Gore's pockets.

Ah -- the good ole' NPR morning news...

Today was more coverage of the Democratic primary race. This time about how Obama has taken the lead over Hillary and how now more than ever the Michigan and Florida delegates are important. They had Al Sharpton saying that it wouldn't be fair for the delegates to count from these states to count now - but of course it was mentioned that he is a "neutral" party. I HIGHLY doubt he is a neutral party. He has an extremely vested interest in Obamas victory.

And why is it so unfair? If Obama, or any other candidate for that matter wanted on the SLIMMEST chance the delegates from the punished states of Michigan and Florida THEY SHOULD HAVE PUT THEIR NAMES ON THE BALLOT!

Personally as a Republican, I think the Democratic party is laughable in their party politics - not that I can say much with the media pushed "front runner" McCain for the Republicans.
